In central Kentucky, a drainage ditch connects an idyllic cul-de-sac to the site of a former Union army refugee camp. In the upcoming book “Harmless Creek,” I take a journey down this stream. Utilizing original photographs, historical documents, and ephemera, this work uncovers this lost connection, examining the tools we use to forget, and seeking the places where remembrance is possible.
